Learn to Sew – A Cushion Cover Level 1

What better way to get to grips with your sewing machine than making yourself a fabulous cushion to brighten up your home. This workshop is aimed at beginners or those wanting a refresher. You will learn how to cut out accurately, sew in a straight line and insert a zip. All materials are included in this workshop with a choice of fabric from one of our selected ranges.

Drum Shade Workshop Level 1

Enjoy an afternoon of great fun making your own fabulous drum shade for a ceiling or feature standard lamp. Please bring along 1⁄2 metre of fabric (cotton or linen work well) and trimmings to add your own unique touch. Drum kit included.

Roman Blind Workshop Level 2

Pam’s Basic Curtain Workshop Level 2

The essentials of beautiful curtains in a day. Pam takes you through step-by-step with practical instruction on planning, measuring and estimating fabric. You will make samples of lined and unlined curtains with various types of headings. All material supplied.

Make a covered Journal Level 1

Learn how to cover a journal and personalise it. These beautiful journals can be used for all your sewing ideas, cooking recipes or just for your thoughts and memories. They make excellent gifts for Mothers day, Christmas or just for that special person in your life.

Free-Machine Embroidery Level 2

Unlock the potential of your sewing machine through this introductory workshop on free-machine embroidery. You will be taught the basic free-machine embroidery techniques and will explore ways of creating interesting backgrounds on which to build your free-machine embroidery by using Bondaweb and dissolvable fabrics. This will be a sample-filled workshop. All materials supplied.

Carole’s Crafty Coffee Morning & 1-to-1 Sessions

A morning of help or advice when starting a new project or finishing a troublesome one. Carole will have the answer and a cuppa. Group workshops; hand-sewing, knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, tapestry or embroidery. All abilities welcome. Please book to ensure your place.
Carole is also available for 1-1 sessions for anyone who would like to learn any of the above crafts at £15 per hour. Please contact us to arrange.

Learn to Crochet – Beginners

Learn how to make a Granny Square and in the process you will learn how to do Chain, Treble and Slip stitch. We will make a circle change into a square. Please bring some light coloured double knit yarn and a 4mm hook.

Learn to Crochet – Improvers

If you have already been on Carole’s Learn to Crochet- 1 workshop then this workshop is a perfect follow-on in which you can iron out any problems you may have come across with your Granny Squares. You will also learn the various ways of joining your squares and some new crochet stitches. Please bring some completed squares, a hook and yarn, the same thickness as used for your completed squares.

Carole’s Learn to Knit

10am to 1pm £30
1.45pm to 4.45pm

Take the stress out of your life by learning how to knit. Learn how to cast on, cast off, knit and purl rows to create stocking stitch and garter stitch. Learn to read a simple pattern and how you can avoid and remedy some of the pitfalls of learning to knit. Please bring some light coloured yarn and the correct size knitting needles as required for your yarn.

Warm Woollen Mittens

with Carole

Having learnt to knit / crochet, now hone your skills to make some warm woollen mittens. Learn how to rib, increase and decrease, read a pattern and create a variety of stitches. Fingerless or full mittens, knitted or crocheted, the choice is yours. Please bring 100gm double knit yarn, and a pair 3.25mm and 4mm knitting needles or a 4mm crochet hook.

Knitted Socks Workshop

with Carole

Create your own gorgeous socks with Carole’s help using four needles. Working in the round you will be shown how to start off the socks, turn the heel and graft the toes. Endless opportunities to use colour and texture. You should go away with the basic principles of making socks. Please bring 100g 4ply sock wool and 2.5mm needles.

Join Jane from Janome on this complimentary workshop for a great sewing techniques day. Get to grips and have fun with piping, zips, button-holes, circular and free-motion embroidery sewing.

Annette and Alicia are available for 1 to 1 sessions for anyone who would like individual dressmaking tuition. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced dressmaker looking to advance your dressmaking skills, as fully qualified teachers with over 30 years’ experience between them, their professional guidance will ensure you are expertly guided through your dressmaking projects.

Learn to Sew- Absolute Beginners - 6 week course -  Level 1

 If you would like to learn to sew but have no idea where to start then this 6 week course for absolute beginners is for you. The course is designed to teach you how to use a sewing machine, building your confidence through two carefully designed projects which will develop your sewing skills.  You will start by making a simple fully-lined tote bag which will include a tab with button and buttonhole and a very useful internal zippered pocket.  You will then produce a simple skirt / top learning how to choose the right fabric for your pattern and how to adjust it to ensure a perfect fit whilst learning how to read a paper pattern and the basics of garment construction. You will need to buy your own skirt pattern, fabric and thread.  We have a great selection in store.

Know your Sewing Machine

An invaluable workshop for anyone who has a sewing machine. Barbara will guide you through threading tensions, the various sewing stitches, fabrics, buttonholes and even how to insert a concealed zip. Please bring your sewing machine (tested before class), all attachments, concealed zip foot, all general feet, foot pedal, thread and an 8” concealed zip.

Know Your Overlocker

Understand troublesome threading, tensions, cutting widths and differential feed. Learn how to make your finishes neat and tidy. Learn how to change the settings on your machine to produce a variety of stitches including 4 and 3 thread overlocking stitch and beautiful roll hemming. Perfect for those who are wary of their overlocker or for more confident sewers. Please bring along your own overlocking machine (tested before class), foot pedal, feet and 4 different coloured reels of gutermann all-purpose sewing thread.

Clothes-making - 3 day Workshop- You Choose the Garment Level 2

If you have done a little sewing before and would like to develop your clothes- making skills further then why not join Barbara on this 3 day workshop run over 3 consecutive Saturdays. You will learn about sizing and how to achieve a great fit along with furthering your knowledge and understanding of paper patterns and garment construction. You are free to choose your pattern from our Vogue, Simplicity or New Look ranges and you will complete a toile (mock-up) before finishing your garment. You will need to bring along your fabric together with all sewing notions as indicated on your chosen pattern. We have a great selection in store.

Adjust to Fit Level 2

Sewing with Stretch Fabrics Level 2

Learn to sew with stretch fabrics. Under Annette’s expert guidance you will be taught how to handle stretch fabrics from pinning on and cutting out accurately, how to create perfect seams and mock coverlock hems. Choose from one of the fabulous stretch patterns in store such as the Renfrew top by Sewaholic, the Lark Tee by Grainline or the wonderfully quick to sew Agnes top or Coco Dress by Tilly and the Buttons. You will also need to bring along your own (pre-washed) stretch fabric suitable for your pattern and matching threads.

Learn to Sew – Beginners Dressmaking - Comfy PJ bottoms / Loungepants Level 2

Using the fabulous Tofino Pants pattern by Sewaholic or one of the Simplicity patterns, learn to sew and make yourself these super comfy PJ bottoms/loungepants. You will learn how to read a pattern, accurately cut out your fabric, how to sew buttonholes, insert elastic and a make a waist tie. This course is perfect for beginners. If you already have an understanding of how to use a sewing machine and have done a little dressmaking before, this is a great dress pattern for developing your dressmaking skills further. In this workshop Alicia will guide you through the construction of one of these fabulous dresses. You will learn how to read a pattern, attach a neck facing and set in sleeves.

Choose from the Camber, Trapeze or Factory Dress patterns all available to purchase in store.
Please bring along your own fabric and matching thread.

If you have some sewing experience and are ready to try a new challenge the Trouser workshop is for you. 
You will learn how to sew your chosen trouser style and whatever your shape Alicia will show you how to achieve the perfect fit. Choose in store from either the Tilly and The Buttons Marigold trousers, The Sew Over it Ultimate Trousers or the Merchant and Mills 101 Drawstring Trousers. You will also need to bring along your own fabric and thread all available in store.

Beginners Patchwork 2 day workshop Level 1

Tracy will guide you through fabric selection, rotary cutting, blocks, machine piecing, basting, how to sandwich your patchwork together, binding and final finishes. Hand-sewn English Hand Piecing Patchwork Level 1

Spend a lovely day with Tracy learning how to sew patchwork by hand using paper templates and accurate seam allowances. Please bring along 3 fat quarters (50cms x 50cms) of cotton fabric, a thimble, thread and hand sewing needles. Some gorgeous fabric scraps supplied.

Stitch & Flip Bag Level 2

Learn a method of ‘Flip and Stitch’ to create a stripy bag. A fun bite size way to learn quilting, patchwork and zip insertion. Once mastered you can apply these techniques to larger projects such as laptop and shoulder bags. These cute quilted zipped purses make great gifts. Please bring along a 12” zip, 1 fat quarter (cotton fabric 50cms x 50cms) for the lining, loads of cotton scrap fabric you would like to use for your patchwork, wadding the size of your fat quarter and matching threads. Jelly Roll Patchwork Project (Log Cabin Blocks) – 2 day course Level 2

One ‘jelly roll’ of gorgeous fabrics and two day’s sewing and you will have a quilt top measuring between 50cms x 60cms to 130cms x 150cms for yourself or a special someone. This is a fast and fun class, giving you the chance to enjoy the sewing without the cutting. No rotary cutting skills required. Please bring along one jelly roll and matching thread. We are also offering 20% off your chosen jelly roll when bought in store when booking this course.

Foundation Piecing Level 2

A fabulous patchwork workshop in which you will learn a method of piecing using a foundation to produce fantastic points and shapes such as Pineapple Block, Log Cabin or New York Beauty. Foundation piecing can be done using hand or machine or both. Please bring along 1⁄4 metre of medium weight sew-in interfacing, a hand- sewing kit and a selection of fabrics. A minimum of 2 fat quarters (50cms x 50cms) would be ideal. We have a great selection in store.

Finishing Your Quilt Level 2

Desperate to finish your quilt? Join Tracey for lots of support and technical know how. You will learn how to do mitred edges, bindings, edges and how to do your own label. This is a sample filled workshop to take home. All materials supplied.

Crazy Piecing Level 2

Bring along a bag full of your scrap fabrics, Tracy will bring some of hers too and you can all swap. Whatever colour or size. Be ready to sew, sew and sew a bit more to recreate some pieces shapes to be used as they are or in other ways.

If you are ready to move on to the next level of quilting and would like to learn some different techniques then this workshop is ideal. Tracy will teach you how to produce an Irish Chain and the results are beautiful.
